STANDARD FOUR - Human Resource Leadership
A. Professional Development/ Learning Communities: The school executive ensures that the school is a professional learning community.
The third grade team meets weekly to discuss and review topics during PLC. This agenda shows my participation in the PLC. Because I also worked with the 3rd grade team with my problem of practice, I was involved frequently with their PLC's. I learned that having an administrator present to respond to immediate questions or needs was helpful.

Each EC PLC has information shared from administration. This is a running document to keep all information at the fingertips of staff. While this document is large, it represents the work the team has done throughout this year. Staff frequently utilized this document to refer to notes from previous meetings or shared information using the shortcut (control + F) to quickly find what they were looking for. I learned that having this information in one place provided quick access for staff.

Here is a picture of most of the EC team from our first PLC this year. This is a huge accomplishment for Cooper to allow the EC team to meet during the day for a common planning time. I was able to establish a common meeting time for this department through the development of the master schedule. Common planning time was much needed and frequently overlooked for this department in many schools and was much appreciated by all.

B. Recruiting, hiring, placing and mentoring of Staff: The school executive establishes processes and systems in order to ensure a high-quality, high performing staff.
In our class with Dr. Hicks, we were challenged to create a hiring video which would target different audiences. This video targets high school seniors or those in their freshman year of college and encourages them to pursue education as a career. Great teachers have a positive impact on schools and can help change the culture and overall dynamics. The course with Dr. Hicks taught me that the single most impact a leader can have on a school is the staff they hire, beginning with great teachers.

Below is a picture of one of the mentor meetings where teachers work together each month to tackle challenges they experience as new teachers. They are supported by administration and their mentors along with other district level staff as needed. As a learner myself, I am engaged in the mentor/mentee meetings each month to demonstrate my dedication to building teacher leaders.

This email was sent by Mr. Stoke following our administrative team discussion about the placement of new staff to our school. This email shared the changes to be made and how this will impact others within our school. This was a work product of one of our first administrative team meetings I was an active participant. Providing frequent communication to staff about changes and the purpose of those changes helps the transition to be more smooth for all involved.
|
C. Teacher and Staff Evaluation: The school executive evaluates teachers and other staff in a fair and equitable manner with the focus on improving performance and, thus student achievement.
The API meeting in August focused on the evaluation instrument. County staff trained us on the purpose and tools used to evaluate staff in our district. I found the API sessions throughout the school year were very beneficial to me to learn more about the ways of our district I did not know. I learned the value of networking within our district with other AP's is crucial to ensure we work together for the overall benefit of our district.
|
Throughout the year, I was tasked with completing observations for staff. The first round was time for me to observe other administrators and then I was tasked with observing and reviewing observations with staff. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control, I was unable to finish the last round of observations which would have included 19 of our teachers. I found that each teacher had a different style and the time to review their observation in the post conference allowed me to know them a little better as a person as well as an educator.

Here are several pictures from classrooms that were part of my walk throughs this year. This is an example of me going into classrooms on a regular basis so my presence when evaluating is not an unusual one. Being a visible leader is what teachers are looking for and that is what I strived to be throughout the year.
